JEE Main 2026 Overview

JEE Main has three paper options: Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech, Paper 2A for B.Arch, and Paper 2B for B.Planning. Candidates should follow the paper-wise syllabus to avoid missing high-weightage units.

Tip: Make a checklist of units and revise with PYQs and mock tests after completing each unit.

Paper 1 Syllabus (B.E./B.Tech)

Paper 1 syllabus includes Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

SubjectWhat to cover
MathematicsAlgebra, Calculus, Coordinate Geometry, Vectors/3D, Probability & Statistics.
PhysicsMechanics, Thermodynamics, Waves, Electricity & Magnetism, Optics, Modern Physics, Experimental Skills.
ChemistryPhysical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Practical Chemistry.

Mathematics Units (Paper 1)

Key Mathematics units include:

  • Sets, Relations and Functions.
  • Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations.
  • Matrices and Determinants.
  • Permutations and Combinations.
  • Binomial Theorem.
  • Sequence and Series.
  • Limit, Continuity and Differentiability.
  • Integral Calculus and Differential Equations.
  • Coordinate Geometry (Straight Line, Circle, Conics).
  • Three Dimensional Geometry and Vector Algebra.
  • Statistics and Probability.
  • Trigonometry.
Quick plan: Finish Algebra + Coordinate Geometry first, then Calculus, then Vectors/3D, and finally Probability/Statistics.

Physics Units (Paper 1)

Physics syllabus broadly covers:

  • Units & Measurements; Kinematics; Laws of Motion; Work, Energy & Power.
  • Rotational Motion; Gravitation; Properties of Solids & Liquids.
  • Thermodynamics; Kinetic Theory of Gases; Oscillations & Waves.
  • Electrostatics; Current Electricity; Magnetic Effects of Current & Magnetism.
  • Electromagnetic Induction & AC; Electromagnetic Waves; Optics.
  • Dual Nature of Matter & Radiation; Atoms & Nuclei; Electronic Devices.
  • Experimental Skills (core lab observations and instruments).

Chemistry Units (Paper 1)

Chemistry syllabus is divided into Physical, Inorganic and Organic chemistry.

Physical Chemistry

  • Basic concepts, Atomic structure, Chemical bonding.
  • Thermodynamics, Solutions, Equilibrium.
  • Redox & Electrochemistry, Chemical kinetics.

Inorganic Chemistry

  • Periodic classification & periodicity.
  • p-block, d & f block elements.
  • Coordination compounds.

Organic Chemistry

  • Purification & characterization, basic principles & reactions.
  • Hydrocarbons; Halogen, Oxygen and Nitrogen compounds.
  • Biomolecules and practical chemistry basics.
Strategy: Keep Organic reaction mechanisms + named reactions as a separate revision notebook.

Paper 2A Syllabus (B.Arch)

Paper 2A includes Mathematics + Aptitude Test + Drawing Test.

  • Mathematics: Same core areas as Paper 1 (highly overlapping syllabus).
  • Aptitude: Awareness of persons/buildings/materials, 3D visualization, analytical reasoning, scale & proportion, design and composition.
  • Drawing: Sketching scenes (urban/rural), memory-based drawing, perspective and freehand composition.
Drawing practice: Time-bound sketching (15–30 minutes) improves speed and composition quality.

Paper 2B Syllabus (B.Planning)

Paper 2B includes Mathematics + Aptitude Test + Planning section.

  • Planning: General awareness (cities, development issues, government programs), social sciences (resources, development, human settlements), and thinking skills (comprehension, maps, charts/graphs/tables).
  • Aptitude: Similar to Paper 2A (visual, numerical and verbal reasoning).

Preparation Tips

  • Make a unit-wise checklist and track completion weekly.
  • Finish NCERT basics first for Chemistry and Modern Physics, then move to advanced problems.
  • Do topic-wise PYQs after each unit and take 1 full mock weekly.
  • Revise formulas daily (Maths/Physics) and reactions daily (Chemistry).

JEE Main 2026 Syllabus FAQs

1) Is Paper 2A and Paper 2B syllabus different?

Yes. Paper 2A has a Drawing Test, while Paper 2B has a Planning section.

2) Is Maths syllabus same for Paper 1 and Paper 2?

Maths syllabus is largely similar across papers, so preparation overlaps strongly.

3) What is the best way to cover the syllabus?

Complete NCERT + core notes first, then practice PYQs and mocks in a structured weekly plan.
