Job Summary

Hyperstring Labs is looking for a hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of concept-to-fabrication mechanical design for conveyors, packaging machines and Special Purpose Machines (SPMs). The role requires strong 3D modelling using SolidWorks, preparation of fabrication-ready drawings/BOMs in AutoCAD, selection of drive and pneumatic components, and close coordination with electrical, automation and production teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and create detailed 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks for conveyors, pick-and-place units, gantries and packaging machinery.
  • Prepare fabrication-ready 2D drawings, detail views and BOMs using AutoCAD.
  • Select and size pneumatic cylinders, valves, suction cups and vacuum ejectors for handling systems.
  • Calculate and select geared motors, servo motors and stepper motors based on torque/speed and application requirements; understand basic mounting and wiring needs.
  • Design mechanical transmission systems (gears, sprockets, chain drives, toothed belts) and perform speed/torque calculations.
  • Integrate linear motion elements (LM guides, ball screws, V-guides), rack & pinion, and positioning systems into designs.
  • Design sheet-metal enclosures, control panels and SS304 structures; develop storage racks and welded frames.
  • Coordinate with electrical, automation and production teams; support procurement and fabrication; maintain version control and design change records.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Diploma / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong command of SolidWorks (3D assemblies, motion study) and AutoCAD (fabrication drawings).
  • Proven experience designing conveyors, packaging machinery or SPMs.
  • Ability to size/select motors (geared/servo/stepper) and pneumatics for automation systems.
  • Good knowledge of machine elements, sheet metal design and manufacturing processes (welding, machining, assembly).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to produce production-ready documentation.
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • Experience with packaging lines, material handling equipment or SPM manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with servo motion control, basic electrical mounting and wiring requirements.
  • Exposure to BOM management tools, PLM/version control or ERP integration.
