Job Overview

Job Summary

Indian Chain Pvt. Ltd. is seeking an experienced Lab In-charge (Mechanical) to manage day-to-day laboratory operations, ensure compliance to NABL / ISO/IEC 17025 standards, supervise mechanical and chemical testing of raw materials and finished products, and lead audits and accreditation activities. The role requires strong technical knowledge of ferrous & non-ferrous spectrometry, UTM, hardness and impact testing, metallography and documentation/audit handling.

Responsibilities

• Supervise chemical and mechanical testing & analysis of raw materials, intermediates and finished products per ASTM / BIS / ISO methods.
• Perform and oversee inspections for clients such as NTPC, L&T, RITES, RDSO etc.
• Operate and manage instruments: spectrometer for ferrous & non-ferrous alloys, GC, AAS, UV-Vis, FTIR, titrators and chromatographs.
• Handle mechanical testing equipment: UTM (manual & computerised) for tensile, yield, elongation, bend/re-bend, flattening tests; Brinell & Rockwell hardness testers; Impact testing (Charpy & Izod).
• Conduct metallography using microscopes for macro/micro examinations.
• Ensure regular calibration with traceability to national/international standards and maintain calibration logs.
• Implement and maintain laboratory SOPs, method validation, uncertainty analysis and proficiency testing records in accordance with NABL/ISO 17025.
• Lead and coordinate NABL audits and internal assessments; ensure timely closure of non-conformities and corrective actions.
• Manage inventory, procurement of consumables and equipment maintenance schedules.
• Supervise, train and mentor lab chemists and technicians; maintain QA/QC documentation and test certificates.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and implement technical solutions.
• Manage laboratory budgets and report on financial performance.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• M.Sc. / B.Sc. in Chemistry or relevant chemical/science discipline (Bachelor’s preferred).
• Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in a NABL-accredited chemical or testing laboratory within manufacturing or research environments, with supervisory/managerial experience.
• In-depth knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 and chemical & mechanical testing protocols.
• Hands-on experience with GC, UV-Vis, AAS, FTIR and spectrometers for ferrous & non-ferrous alloys.
• Proficient with UTM, hardness testers (Brinell & Rockwell), impact testing machines and metallography.
• Knowledge of WPS/PQR, NDT testing, sample preparation, macro/micro examination and inspection testing (UTS, chemical, hardness, impact).
• Strong documentation, audit handling, uncertainty analysis and corrective action skills.
• Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is a plus.

Good to Have

• Prior experience handling NABL accreditation end-to-end.
• Exposure to large-scale manufacturing labs or third-party testing labs.
• Experience in client audits (NTPC, L&T, RITES, RDSO etc.).
