Job Description

The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) is a statutory body established in 1997 to oversee recruitment in secondary and higher secondary schools across West Bengal. It manages large-scale hiring processes including eligibility tests and selection exams. In 2025, it launched the 2nd State Level Selection Test (SLST) targeting recruitment of 35,726 Assistant Teachers for government-aided and sponsored schools across the state.

Job Responsibilities

  • Deliver quality instruction in designated subjects and classes (Secondary: IX–X; Higher Secondary: XI–XII)
  • Prepare lectures, lesson plans, and educational materials aligning with curriculum standards
  • Evaluate student performance through tests, assignments, and assessments
  • Develop a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds
  • Participate in school events, parent-teacher interactions, and developmental programs
  • Maintain academic records and comply with administrative procedures and guidelines

Eligibility Criteria

Citizenship Indian citizen
Educational Qualifications (Secondary) Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject with minimum 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) plus a B.Ed. degree.
Educational Qualifications (Higher Secondary) Master’s degree in relevant subject with at least 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) plus a B.Ed. degree.
Physical/Work Education Qualifications per NCTE norms such as B.P.Ed.
Age Limit (as of Jan 1, 2025) Minimum: 21 years
Maximum: 40 years
Age relaxation: SC/ST – 5 yrs; OBC-A/OBC-B – 3 yrs; PwD – up to 10 yrs; Ex-servicemen per norms
Other Requirements Knowledge of Bengali or relevant regional language per notification; basic computer literacy preferred.
